Paint protection questions.
What's the difference between PPF and ceramic coating?
PPF is a physical, self-healing urethane film up to 8 mils thick that absorbs rock chips and impacts. Ceramic coating is a chemical layer measured in microns that adds gloss and hydrophobic properties but offers no impact protection. Many Tesla owners install both — PPF underneath, ceramic coating over the top.
How long does PPF last?
XPEL Ultimate Plus carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty against yellowing, peeling, cracking and delamination. In real-world use, professionally installed PPF often lasts well beyond ten years.
Can you see the edges of the film?
Not from any normal viewing distance. We use custom-cut templates designed for each Tesla panel and wrap edges around to hidden surfaces wherever possible. Under direct close inspection you may see a faint line — but the protection is essentially invisible.
How does PPF self-heal?
The topcoat is an elastomeric polymer. When scratched, the molecular structure re-forms when exposed to heat — sunlight, warm water, or a hairdryer all work. Surface scratches and swirl marks disappear within minutes.
How long does the install take?
Partial front: 1 day. Full front: 1 to 2 days. Full vehicle: 2 to 3 days. We'll give you an exact ETA when you book.
Can PPF be removed without damaging the paint?
Yes. When installed correctly on factory paint, PPF removes cleanly with low heat and no adhesive residue. We do not recommend self-removal — let a certified installer handle it.
